We would like to give a deep and heartfelt  thank you to the Burlington Civitan Club for supporting our annual Winter Wonderland Dinner Dance.  All the athletes, coaches and volunteers enjoyed a fantastic dinner and had a great time rocking to Nathan Brown's video dance.  A special thanks to the volunteers from the Diversity Club at SIr Ernest MacMillan P.S. for helping with the decorating and set up for the party.  We can't wait for the Spring Fling !

Happy New Year and Provincial Competition News -

HAPPY NEW YEAR ! Special Olympics Burlington has had a wonderful fall season of practices and competitions.  Our athletes have proven themselves to be outstanding competitors. They have all demonstrated wonderful sportsmanship at both competitions and  practices.  Our coaches and volunteers have been working hard to help our athletes develop skills in their various sports. Our team enrollments are at the highest they have ever been, with swimming and 5 pin bowling at capacity.  We have welcomed many new athletes, coaches and volunteers to Special Olympics Burlington and have been glad to welcome back all those who have returned for another year.  We are looking forward to an exciting winter season, with lots of tournaments and regional competitions coming up.

We would like to congratulate 7 of our athletes who will be representing Burlington as part of the Region 5 team going to the Provincial Competition in June.  Katie Veitch, Samantha Hayes, Sydney Chilwell and Adam Peirsma will be competing in swimming, while Jodi Kaczur, Mike Buzit and Gary Chenevard will be competing in 5 pin bowling. Coach Cate will be joining the Region 5 swim team as an assistant coach.  We wish all our athletes the best of luck in Kingston this June and we know that you will make Burlington proud.

Our Rhythmic Gymnastics and 10 Pin Bowling teams will be competing at Regionals this spring and we wish all our athletes the best in those up coming competitions as well.

BELIEF...

Special Olympics Believes...

Special Olympics was founded on the belief that people with intellectual disabilities can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team sports. Children and adults with intellectual disabilities, who participate in Special Olympics, exhibit boundless courage and enthusiasm, enjoy the rewards of friendship and ultimately discover not only new abilities and talents but "their voices" as well.

Special Olympics believes that through sports training and competition, people with intellectual disabilities benefit physically, mentally, socially and spiritually; families are strengthened; and the community at large, both through participation and observation, is united in understanding people with intellectual disabilities in an environment of equality, respect and acceptance.
